The John F. Kennedy Medical Center is to shortly receive a new ambulance in anticipation of the set –up of Liberia ’s first modernized public emergency response unit in several decades. The emergency response vehicle was recently purchased by the Mike Mueller Charities (MMC) in collaboration with the Coalition of Concerned Liberians (CCL), the European Federation of Liberian Associations (ELFA), and Board Members of MMC.

The ambulance is expected to be formally delivered to the Liberian government in mid November at a special ceremony involving key officials of the Liberian government including President Ellen Sirleaf and Vice President Joseph N. Boakai. The new emergency unit is among  the second in a series of other planned donations earmarked in a comprehensive aid package promised together last April by the MMC board for Liberia's reconstruction.

MMC’s first project was the renovation of the Monrovia Demonstration School which was completed last June.  Additionally, it was noted that prior to delivery of the emergency unit, the J.F. K Medical Center is expected to complete a plan of action and Memorandum of Understanding which will confirm the set up of an emergency response unit and efficient management of the vehicle.

The recent gift to the improvement of Liberia ’s depleted healthcare delivery system comes barely six months after a recent visit to Monrovia by MMC Chairman Michael Mueller and other Board Members of the Charity, including ELFA President Elvis Morris, and CCL Chairman John F. Lloyd. During their April visit to Liberia, the leaders held talks with top officials of the Liberian government including Vice President Joseph N. Boakai, and Senate President Pro-Tempore Cletus Wotorson who accepted their offer to partner with the government in the rebuilding process through aid to education and healthcare.

Mike Mueller Charities (“MMC”), a reputable humanitarian venture based in Europe, with a focus on assistance to Liberia, will be officially launching a branch of its charitable foundation in Monrovia. MMC’s official launching ceremony, occurring on April 6, 2009, is expected to be witnessed by dignitaries from Europe, America, Liberia and other parts of Africa. Prominent among the invited guests are President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Vice President Joseph N. Boakai.

At the April 6th ceremony, MMC through its Chairman, Mr. Michael Mueller, is excited at the prospect of making an initial donation to Liberia’s educational development as the first of a series of assistance packages in collaboration with the European Federation of Liberian Associations (EFLA) and the Coalition of Concerned Liberians (CCL) based in the United States.

MMC is a humanitarian and philanthropic body established by Liberian nationals in the Diaspora with the support of friends of Liberia within the international community. Its founder, Michael Mueller, a recognized international banker in Europe, is a son of Liberia and Switzerland. The organization’s charter highlights the following objectives:

*      Educating young Liberians;

*      Economically empowering women;

*      Improving healthcare delivery;

*     Reconstruction; and

*      Working with other non-profit organizations.

The charter further notes, “MMC is determined to contribute to the post-war human capital developmental efforts of the international community and the Poverty Reduction Strategy of the duly elected government of Liberia. Our goal is to increase the avenues of educational and business opportunities in Liberia. We believe that availability to first-class early childhood education is the catalyst towards a successful future for our young men and women. We also plan to provide an environment that provides start-up money to women who seek an opportunity to become business owners.” These goals will help towards the promise of providing an environment where all citizens of Liberia have the means to reach their full potential.
